Rose Festival Sanctioned EventThe sacred and the secular – an ongoing dichotomy in music perhaps most clearly seen in the madrigals and motets of the Renaissance era – the golden age of polyphony. This concert will trace the lineage of these genres from the 1500s to the 2000s with music from the great Renaissance masters such as Palestrina, Byrd, Weelkes and Monteverdi, to those who continued the tradition into subsequent eras, including Bach, Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Fauré, Schoenberg, Gjeilo and others.
