Elaine Hagenberg’s The Music of Stillness

This video features Elaine Hagenberg’s haunting The Music of Stillness, drawn from lyrics by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Sara Teasdale. Inspired by a cold and starry winter’s evening, this composition captures a singular moment of peace and serenity with breathtaking clarity. Elaine Hagenberg fits perfectly into the mold of composers we like to highlight – contemporary, up-and-coming, and creating timeless arrangements of beautiful lyrics. We are sure that you will hear more from her in CAE concert seasons to come.

The pandemic has affected us all in a variety of ways. We offer this recording and video as a holiday gift and hope that through this music you too find a moment of peace and serenity.

Jake Runestad’s Come to the Woods

This is our recording of Jake Runestad’s Come to the Woods, performed in 2018. CAE loves to celebrate the works of living composers, and Mr. Runestad joined us in April of 2018 to conduct a concert focused on his work.

We then reprised Come to the Woods later that same year in our 50th Anniversary celebration concert which featured some of our all time favorite pieces. CAE Tenor, Matthew Compton, introduces this remarkable piece of music at the beginning of the video.

Morten Lauridsen’s Sure on this Shining Night

This recording, Sure on this Shining Night, is from a set of songs by local-born and internationally loved composer Morten Lauridsen. This stunning live recording was made in 2016 and features our assistant artistic director Megan Elliott at the helm. Carmen Moore, CAE Alto, will introduce this video.

John Hidalgo’s Lux Aeterna

This video features a recording of Lux Aeterna, literally “light eternal,” by Springfield, Oregon composer John Hidalgo. This recording comes from our 2019 holiday concert at the historic St. Philip Neri Church, and was part of our ongoing partnership with Cascadia Composers, in which we feature the work of local composers. CAE tenor and current choir president, Joshua Gietzen will introduce this video.
